This is a list intended to help you put your priorities in place. It is ALSO the list that we are CURRENTLY using in preparation for our South By Southwest trip (that’s happening right now), so this is kinda a behind the scenes look at what we’re doing.

12 Steps music conference planning:
1. Tickets/hotel/airfare
2. Rough schedule
1. for everything, including livestreams and social media posts
2. Last time we used Trello to keep track of the daily agenda and notes, but this time we are trying Google Keep 💁🏾
3. Look at conference app for time/session planning
4. Food/shopping plans (for that city; survey YouTube videos and blogs)
5. Clothing choices (comfortable, but rock star branded)
6. Merch strategy (items/distribution/creation???)
7. Day job preparation (try to maintain your situation even as you grow your creative empire)
8. Plan/get spending money for trip (keep some cash)
9. Tech needs (including memory cards, cameras, extra batteries, travel pack)

10. Pack patience (things will be different than you’re used to, but that’s why you’re fucking leaving the house)
11. Enjoy the moment (take it all in, savor it, record as much as you can stand to, so that you can use it for rock star content later)
12. Have a buffer day (when you return home, so that you can recover from jet lag, unpack)
All these ideas are discussed in the podcast episode.

It blows my mind how many people are impacted by background check errors and how little recourse they seem to have until they push hard. Background checks are supposed to help employers, not ruin someone’s chances based on outdated or flat-out wrong info. Saw a few threads where folks mentioned a checkr lawsuit because their reports showed records that didn’t belong to them. In some cases, they lost job offers before they even had a chance to explain. There definitely needs to be more accountability with how these third-party companies handle personal data—mistakes like that shouldn’t be so easy to make, and so hard to fix.
