This episode is a part of our Blog-vember 2019 trifecta of three posts a day—a video, a podcast, and a blog post. This year the focus is tips for the D.I.Y. Rock Star. We developed these methods through our own decades worth of experiences.
Take into account these tips for competing with yourself (as opposed to competing with others):
The BIG Take-Aways:
Here are our tips for competing with yourself: This is ACTUALLY the prime way that we motivate ourselves is NOT to compete with ourselves. Instead of looking to others in terms of stats and achievements, we try to do our very best, which becomes our standard to beat.
Whether it’s writing songs, running, etc., we are trying to be better now than I have been in the past. We can’t run someone’s race, since our lives and expectations are so different. We know, personally, when we are being lazy and when we are challenging ourselves. Plus, it is only a false perception to feel as though I understand someone else’s journey.
We do look to others for inspiration and for the initial ways to approach something, but once we understand the process, we break the pattern of paying too close attention to what others are doing, so that we can figure out what works and will might succeed for what we’re doing.
