This episode is a part of our Blog-vember 2019 trifecta of three posts a day—a video, a podcast, and a blog post. This year the focus is tips for the D.I.Y. Rock Star. We developed these methods through our own decades worth of experiences.
Take into account these tips for discovering and listening to new music:
The BIG Take-Aways:
This is always a tough one. Technically, with my guitar and phone, I have enough gear. So, you have to ask myself when do you have enough gear or why am I buying gear?
Sometimes, the answer is complicated. Sometimes, it’s because I can’t seem to figure out how to use the gear I’ve got, or that I don’t like what I am creating with what I’ve got. So, buying gear sometimes can help make me more creative and I will freely admit that. Therefore, just for the purposes of trying something new and exciting, I will buy something new.
I will sell the old gear to help fund the newer purchase. I don’t like to have gear duplicates.
When it comes to guitars, that is a more personal purchase. You should actually try out a bass or a guitar before you buy it. However, when you want something that you cannot find locally, you may need to order online. Assess why you are buying gear and if you are buying to get you out of a creative rut, then cool. Or if you are buying it, it’s great if you can go in and play the instrument, especially if it’s a guitar.
That’s it.
