This episode is a part of our Blog-vember 2019 trifecta of three posts a day—a video, a podcast, and a blog post. This year the focus is tips for the D.I.Y. Rock Star. We developed these methods through our own decades worth of experiences.

The BIG Take-Aways:

Here are our tips for what to do if you want to play bass. Our tips are similar to what we said in the Guitar Playing tips (see http://bit.ly/Ep97BV2019blog23 ). Get the instrument first, then start learning songs. You can use YouTube to serve as a teacher.

We learned by playing our songs first and then, learning others’ songs. Bruce realized that, if he could sing it, he could play it. He is not a perfectionist, but he replicates the “feel” of a song, which is all you need to get the job done.

Get a bass that feels easier to play. –You may need to have someone “set it up”; having the strings are lower to the neck makes it easier to play. –If you feel that the instrument is “fighting” you, it will be discouraging to play. Therefore, make sure you get a lighter gauge strings, because they are easier to play. Also, make sure that the neck is not warped.

Actually, you might want to go to a music store, where you can consult with a salesman, who can help you choose the right instrument for your needs.
