Tips for Blogging (for the D.I.Y. Rock Star)

This episode is a part of our Blog-vember 2019 trifecta of three posts a day—a video, a podcast, and a blog post. This year the focus is tips for the D.I.Y. Rock Star. We developed these methods through our own decades worth of experiences.

Take into account these tips for discovering and listening to new music:

The BIG Take-Aways:

There is no financial incentive for doing the blogging that we are doing. Our goal is to share what we care about and maybe to share part of story in the hopes that others may be inspired by our journey (since we feel it’s a pretty unique one). [‘Don’t know our story? Check out this link for more on that ( http://bit.ly/allthethingsprej ).] Therefore, our blog is for sharing the things, tools, and experiences that we encounter that provide us creative inspiration.

With blogging, writing is just one part of the puzzle. There is also creating the graphics and then formatting it all together with all the appropriate links is what makes it all come together as a blog. It also has been about trying to figure out how to focus ideas, so that they link up to something bigger (link through a content calendar and/or links to other posts that relate).

I will admit that sometimes, I am not ready to do all parts of what it takes to craft a blog post in one sitting. So, oftentimes, I will spend a chunk of time writing; and at other times, I will create a boatload of graphics to go with posts (and for promotion), and, rarely, am I in the mood to format with links, but since I know that is the final step to make it a blog post, I will get that part done too. If an idea is strong enough, it will make it a little easier to move it along that getting-it-done conveyor belt. If not, then it languishes. –And there are quite a few blog posts that are almost completely written, but don’t make it to the next step, because I lose enthusiasm for the idea. Therefore, it helps to have an over-abundance of ideas.

And when I know that it is time to get a post in particular done, I will use that timer/tuning fork method; meaning that I will set a timer for 45 minutes, turn off all phones, and just not stop until it is in a publishable state. I know this process is pretty ethereal and particular to my moods, but that’s how we do it around here.
