“19 for 2019”: Goals for the New Year

Updated: Jan 6

This post accompanies the

YouTube video (http://bit.ly/2BTXZyq ) and

the podcast (http://bit.ly/2LNZu5J ) for Gab & Jam Episode 44.

This is a practice that I learned about by listening to the “Happier” podcast, hosted by Gretchen Rubin. She co-hosted the episode with her sister, Elizabeth. It was so fun and inspiring that it seemed like a less intimidating way to set goals for the new year. So, I decided to try this with my buddy/my pal/my hubby, since many of my goals include him.

While we realize that 19 goals can seem like quite a lot, we do recommend that everyone--no matter who you are--have some goals that undergird a vision for your life. If you're a creative, then your responsibility to yourself is to genuinely expressive in some way as your goal.

We decided to do something fun and used this unique framework for goal setting. On the “Happier” episode, they chose to create a list of goals that reflect the number of the year, so on their episode, they recounted their "18 for 2018" goals. I, for one, decided NOT to put goals on my list that others feel I should do, but I ONLY put what made my heart sing. We encourage you to do the same.

Part of the reason for setting goals is the hope and anticipation of knowing that if you write the vision and make it plain that you can make it happen. Further, having goals help make life worth living.
