Art Fun Run: Detroit's Dequindre Cut

The advantage of the change in weather means an opportunity to participate in fun runs and walks. Today, we were blessed with a slightly overcast morning doing a charity walk. The bonus was that I got a formal introduction to the the Dequindre Cut. (It turns out that the Dequindre Cut Freight Yard is opening today, so check we got to see the preparations.)

Not only did we spend great couple time, got some fitness in, learned about some cool new walkable outdoor space, but we were able to appreciate a plethora of street art (some commissioned and some not). What follows is a variable cornucopia of sometimes edgy, and oddly sometimes sweet art.

Because often the art is anonymous, forgive me if I happen to not give the proper credit to each artist. As I saw the names, I tried to write them down.

Here's our path.

This one is very "Soul Train" reminiscent to me. I can almost see the opening credits for the show when I see this. I also noticed the "Tomorrow Starts with Yes" quote when I saw it the second time through.

This is the second time that I have been introduced to the Dequindre Cut. The last time was only for a brief while, when we were on our pre-Turkey Trot 5k. (link)

I'm an avid lover of a well-drawn eye. --In high school, I was the queen of drawing the Prince eye.

--This one is superb.

You’ve heard the saying that a picture is worth a thousand words. Well, band photos REALLY are, since they determine if someone is going to say “Hell, yeah!” or “Hell, no!” to listening to your kick-ass music. Don’t forget to take heed to these important tips, in order to “get it right.” Check out this checklist of 15 valuable tips. http://www.bloomingprejippie.com/betterbandphotos

My all-time favorite model!

I'm a sucker for any kind of patchwork, so this one spoke to me.

This is so totally techno! Yet it has a lilty, beautiful quality to it.

Even when I think I am not, I represent Detroit, so I stand in solidarity that this kind of green space could not be achieved without there being a Detroit that needed this art baptism.

Well, that wraps up our fun run and our art tour.

Usually a runner, but a walker with me, as I took pictures of all that newfound art.

Happy to have spent a spring morning with my true love, exploring the art of Detroit.
