D.I.Y. Rock Star Rewind: TOO old for this sh*t! (August 2022)

My gift….

— AND I STILL “overslept” this morning, felt kinda crappy and had to remind myself that waking up—and getting started—early is MY gift to MYSELF, which means that it’s WORTH it even when NOONE is “looking.” 🤷🏽‍♀️ In fact, I think it’s even MORE valuable, because it means the quality of my day, mood, and fitness will be the better BECAUSE of it. So, needless to say, I got my ass out of bed and here I am on the treadmill. 🤷🏽‍♀️😬🏃🏾‍♀️

10 Reasons you should buy ads for your music:

The Rabbit Hole…

— I guess I DON’T even have some GRAND message this month, except to fucking GET STARTED….No matter how late! —We received a very lengthy rant about all the things we were doing “wrong” by someone who encountered the Bourgeoisie Paper Jam ad. And we really DON'T want to go into all the minutiae of it. What we REALLY drew from it was that this guy seems like a person who is in a similar situation to us—he’s an artist, who’s in our age range, who thinks that he REALLY can’t compete in today’s music business landscape. 🤷🏽‍♀️ What struck us is that he spent SOOOO much time evaluating ALL our various Prejippie Music channels. I mean, he had something to say about the music, about the fact that we SHOULDN'T need to run ads, about the fact that our YouTube channel has over 11k followers, about how we have that pesky blog, about how we seemed to have more music equipment than was necessary—I mean, he KNEW it all! 😳 BUT what we could FEEL his sadness through his words. He seemed to be feeling like he was PAST his prime and that, if HE couldn’t find “success,” then neither could we. 😳🤷🏽‍♀️

235. How NOT to let the news discourage you (for the D.I.Y. Rock Star)

Here to lift you….

And I guess that reminded me that part of what we do is to provide encouragement for folks who are similar to us—who want to make their creative mark before you are buried, but want to really and truly do the music that speaks to you (and just what you’ve seen others do, EXACTLY, nor do you want to try to follow the teenyboppers, whose idols and music doesn’t make you feel as the music you grew up on). Who know that there’s uncertainty at daring to step out of line, but realize that our lives wouldn’t feel complete unless we DO “rattle some cages.” 🤷🏽‍♀️

Be the hero of your own story:

Why not?!

So, to THAT guy, to you, AND to ourselves, we say, why not fucking make some noise?! Why NOT fucking put our resources from our day jobs into creating music, the blog, the podcast, and into YouTube material that we can BELIEVE in? If folks can spend their money on classic cars (that will rust and fade) and on furs (that will dry rot after they’re gone), then why not pour our hearts and souls into work that moves us and then use our other resources to share it with the world?! THAT'S what makes US happy. And I suspect, if this dude had committed himself to pouring his soul into a song, he wouldn’t have been so mad at us for simply TRYING to make the most of what we have.

Here’s “What’s Poppin’ at Prejippie?”

Too old for this shit!

So, I guess I go back to the original point. We CAN’T control the past. —And when we try, we end up having those conversations where we “shoulda,” “woulda,” and “coulda.” And I am sorry, but to quote Danny Glover’s character in Lethal Weapon, we’re “too old for [that] shit!” Instead, about 5 years ago, we decided that we would throw EVERYTHING we have at these dreams and see where it takes us, because what else is there that we could BETTER doing with our time?!

How to give better interviews (for D.I.Y. Rock Stars):

It's our MISSION!

So, come hell or high water, and for better or for worse, THIS is our mission, to CREATE the art, to SHARE the art, and to ENCOURAGE you all to do the same.

10 Ways to nurture your fans:

Thank YOU!

Well, thank you ALL for going on our journey with us and, for MANY of you, for creating a creative life to love for yourselves! We APPLAUD you and remind you, since you ONLY have this one life to live—that we are sure of—make the MOST of it!
