Take into account these tips for playing the guitar:
The BIG Take-Aways:
The biggest tip is to just play the instrument. Pick it up, crank up a YouTube How To video, and get to playing. Learn a few chords and, before you know it, you will know enough to write a song. Don’t be overwhelmed. It might make it easier if you start learning songs first, in order to learn your way around the instrument. There are a variety of ways to learn, so you should experiment in order to figure out what works best for you.
Don’t worry about the technical aspects first (notes, theory, etc.); learn a few songs, then you will learn the chords and your fretboard. If you are inspired to play, then surrender to the process and let it unfold.
Then, exercise patience and institute practice. Bruce keeps his bass and his guitar by the couch—in front of the television—so that he can practice everyday.
Finally, run your own race. Don’t worry about competing with anyone else. (For more about that, see Ep 94: http://bit.l
